winged readiness. Of standing up to the bad things rather than feeling helpless and untoward fear. Whether it is for ourselves, or on behalf of another, it can help us to stand still, and use the best picture we have to invite those things we need and desire. Angels came to comfort Jesus, we are told, in the Garden of Gethsemane, they ministered unto Him in the desert. He himself spoke of angels, who were ever before the face of God, on behalf of the little ones. |

Leave aside images for the moment, and think of the possibility of a new idea, of new emotions, nobler, perhaps than you presently can reach, of new passion for good things, and of becoming like them, bringing these strengths into your own world as it is now. you begining to experience them as presences. To invite them in, to hold them to you, and you find that they will speak in and through you. No. They are not The Holy One. No they are not the very human comfort of Jesus himself, but they are strong, and of great beauty and intelligence. You may hear them - almost, speak with you, advice you. It is ever your choice to listen however, or not. You easily turn away into the dark, invite the tendrils of sorry and helplessness back into the mind, and to return to the pain. But then, is it not more noble to stretch out the hand that wills joy, wholesomeness, cleanness and growing delight ?
As Saint Paul said: "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us"
